First Aid & CPR

Adult/Pediatric Heartsaver & First Aid Course

This course is for the general public who would like to learn CPR and first aid for both adults and children. This class includes participation, demonstration and written evaluation. Basic Dysrhythmia

Basic Dysrhythmia is a two-day course that focuses on the essential information needed to interpret ECG's. Patient signs and symptoms and treatments are also discussed. Neonatal Resuscitation Certification

This class is for healthcare providers and includes a skill review and written exam. Topics covered include overview and principles of resuscitation, initial steps in resuscitation, use of a resuscitation bag and mask, chest compressions, endotracheal intubation, medications and special considerations. Baby Care Basics & Car Seat Safety

Learn all about the care of your soon-to-arrive newborn, including bathing, diapering, feeding, burping, comforting and car seat safety. The final hour of the class will cover car seat safety, taught by an NTHSB-certified instructor. Please bring a doll with you to class for practice. Bagels & Babies One-day Childbirth Education Course

This is a complete childbirth education course that includes interventions & C-Section information, in addition to baby care basics with Happiest Baby on the Block demonstrations. Dress comfortably & bring pillows as we will be sitting on the floor for labor & relaxation practice. Either bring a sack lunch or food can be purchased in the cafeteria. Breastfeeding Support Group

This free group is for moms who want to learn more about breastfeeding and/or those who are having difficulty breastfeeding. The group will be led by a Board Certified Lactation Specialist. Mothers and babies welcome. For more information, call the Women's Unit at (805) 955-6304.

Childbirth Education

This four-week course is offered year-round. The class meets on Mondays. Expectant parents should begin the course during the sixth month of pregnancy. Please bring pillows to each class. Twilight Infant/Parent Class

This class, held at the Child Development Center’s Play Space, is designed for working parents and their infant or toddler. Each two-hour class meets for eight sessions on Tuesday evenings. Parents learn about child development and parenting while their children play alongside them under the supervision of child development specialists. Senior Health

All senior adults are invited to attend a series of lectures—free of charge—led by medical experts from Simi Valley Hospital. The events are held in the education rooms of the Simi Valley Senior Center, located at 3900 Avenida Simi. Each lecture includes a question-and-answer session, and refreshments will be served.

High Blood Pressure Primer

Just about everyone knows that high blood pressure is a bad thing. But why is it so dangerous, and how can it be prevented? How is high blood pressure diagnosed? What are the benefits, side-effects and other issues related to blood pressure-lowering medication? Nurse Practitioner Mary Haynes will answer these questions and more in her informative talk, which will include opportunities for questions from the audience.

Physical Fitness for Seniors

Gone are the days when the over-60 crowd was expected to retire to their rocking chairs! Today’s active seniors love to stay fit and healthy. In this fun program, Kathleen Hodgson, MS, PT, will discuss a variety of fitness topics for seniors, including proper form for walking and strategies to stay fit even if you are limited physically.
