Approved! That was the unanimous vote of the City of Simi Valley’s Planning Commission on November 6, 2002, allowing Simi Valley Hospital to proceed with building a 168-bed Patient Care Tower on the hospital’s main campus on Sycamore Drive. Leading the charge toward approval was Margaret Peterson, president & CEO, who gave an impassioned speech to the commission about the importance of this new structure to our community.
The goal of the Patient Care Tower is to provide our community with a state-of-the-art facility that will provide physicians, nurses and other caregivers with an ideal environment to provide patient care services. The Tower will also feature state-of-the-art equipment and design, such as computerized nursing stations in front of each patient room and private patient care corridors.

Remaining proactive in making our patients comfortable during their stay with us, perhaps the most important Tower design feature is that every patient suite will be a single-bed, private room. The rooms will also be spacious, approximately 30 percent larger than state requirements.
The Patient Care Tower’s evolution allows Simi Valley Hospital to continue with our mission of providing quality service and compassionate care. Since the Northridge earthquake, building requirements for structures housing health care services have become more stringent.
The Patient Care Tower design and build costs are estimated at $50 million. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will provide $16 million of the cost, and Adventist Health, Simi Valley Hospital’s corporate parent, has committed $10 million. That leaves approximately $24 million to come through fund raising and other activities of the Simi Valley Hospital Foundation.
During construction, all services, including the Emergency Department, will remain open to patients and guests. Estimated completion of the new patient tower is first quarter of 2007.
