Spotlight on Breast Cancer and Mammography

Women’s health was in the news at Simi Valley Hospital during the final quarter of 2007, with activities and events that support the hospital’s ability to provide state-of-the-art mammography services for the women of our community.

Fashion for the Cure

The Brighton Collectibles stores in Simi Valley and Thousand Oaks selected Simi Valley Hospital’s Nancy Reagan Breast Center as their premier women’s charity during National Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October. As part of Brighton Collectibles’ nationwide Power of Pink campaign, the local stores pledged to donate a portion of the proceeds from the sales of limited-edition necklaces, bracelets and earrings.

Between the two stores, Brighton donated approximately $5,500 to the Nancy Reagan Breast Center. The stores also invited Simi Valley Hospital representatives and breast cancer survivors to speak on the issue of breast cancer and the importance of annual mammograms and breast self-exams.

Digital Mammography Debuts

Thanks in large part to a generous donation from Fujifilm Medical Systems, digital mammography is now the standard at the Nancy Reagan Breast Center at Simi Valley Hospital.

“We are truly grateful for this donation of lifesaving technology, valued at about $300,000,” said Katherine Hillard, chief technologist for Simi Valley Hospital’s Aspen Outpatient Center. “Having digital mammography makes an enormous difference in our ability to serve the women of our community.”

The digital mammography technology, provided through Fujifilm’s partnership with the National Breast Cancer Foundation, fully integrates into a new $1.7 million digital imaging system at the hospital.

Mammograms for Every Woman

Another grant from the National Breast Cancer Foundation ensures that every woman in our community can afford a mammogram at the Nancy Reagan Breast Center at Simi Valley Hospital. Women without insurance or whose insurance does not cover mammography may call the breast center at (805) 955-8150 to see if they qualify.

Ask your physician for a referral to the Nancy Reagan Breast Center. Why go out of town for excellent women’s health services when you can find them right here in your own community?
