Vons Employees and Customers Help Equip Nancy Reagan Breast Center

Bill Tarter, district manager of Vons stores (third from left) presents a gift of $28,732.01 to Lisa Hansen, chief technologist of Diagnostic Imaging at Simi Valley Hospital’s Aspen Outpatient Center; Monica Berlin, director of Diagnostic Imaging; and Margaret Peterson, president and CEO of Simi Valley Hospital on January 13 at Vons Store 2092 in Thousand Oaks.

The employees and customers of 20 area Vons stores have made it possible for the Nancy Reagan Breast Center at Simi Valley Hospital to purchase new technology that will help save lives for years to come.

The technology — a software upgrade to the breast center’s Mammotome® stereotactic breast biopsy unit — will help physicians better localize and biopsy small breast lesions found on mammogram films by pinpointing much smaller lesions than was possible with the existing technology. The upgraded software was purchased with a gift of $28,732.01 from Vons, which was presented to the hospital on January 13.

“The generous donation will assist the Nancy Reagan Breast Center to stay on the cutting edge of technology,” said Lorri Adams, SVH Foundation Executive Director. “We are very appreciative of Vons, their employees and their customers for donating to this fundraiser and selecting the Nancy Reagan Breast Center as a designee of the funds.”

In 2004, each Vons store held fund-raisers that garnered donations from employees and customers. Proceeds were distributed among a number of area organizations, including Simi Valley Hospital.

“This extraordinary donation is truly precious because Vons employees raised the money through their hard work and dedication,” said Margaret R. Peterson, President and CEO. “Vons has done an incredible job at giving back to the community and we are fortunate to have them on our side in the fight against breast cancer.”
