SVH: In the News — President Margaret Peterson


Margaret R. Peterson was appointed president and CEO of Simi Valley Hospital & Health Care Services (SVHHCS) and began her new responsibilities on July 1, 2000.

Previously, Peterson was vice president, Acute Care, and Bluebonnet Campus Administrator at Baton Rouge General Medical Center in Louisiana. She oversaw the operational effectiveness and strategic growth of the two hospital campuses, which are managed by Adventist Health System, a sister corporation based in Florida.

Peterson was a management and health care consultant who held the post of vice president and chief nurse executive at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital in Rockville, Maryland. She also served as director of Organizational Development at Washington Adventist Hospital in Takoma Park, Maryland.

Since beginning her health care career, Peterson has worked in a number of Adventist health care facilities including, Leland Memorial Hospital in Riverdale, Maryland and Kettering Medical Center in Ohio. She was chair and professor for the Department of Nursing at Columbia Union College and instructor in the School of Nursing at Loma Linda University.

Peterson, who is a registered nurse, has a BS in Nursing with a minor in Psychology from Columbia Union College in Takoma Park, Maryland. She obtained a Master of Science in Cardiovascular Nursing from the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC and a Ph.D. in Administration from Miami University, Oxford, Ohio.

Peterson is active in numerous professional associations including, the American College of Healthcare Executives, the American Management Association and the American Nurses Association. In addition, she currently serves as a board member for Family Service of Baton Rouge.

Peterson, her husband, Ken, an anesthesiologist, and their children Rohen and Rajeev now reside in Simi Valley.
