Quality Cancer Care

Quality Cancer Care

Cancer Accreditation

Simi Valley Hospital has received a three-year accreditation, with commendation from the Commission on Cancer (CoC) of the American College of Surgeons. The accreditation follows a September 2010 evaluation by a physician surveyor, during which the hospital demonstrated compliance with the commission’s 36 standards and excellence in several areas, including cancer prevention and early detection programs. This accreditation is a testament to our commitment to work with the community to provide the highest-quality cancer care to our patients.

The CoC is a consortium of professional organizations dedicated to improving survival rates and quality of life for cancer patients through standard-setting, prevention, research, education and the monitoring of comprehensive, quality care. Accreditation is awarded to facilities that have voluntarily committed to providing the highest level of quality cancer care and that undergo a rigorous evaluation process and performance review. To maintain accreditation, facilities must take part in an on-site review every three years.

Maintaining a Professional Cancer Program

All cancer cases at Simi Valley Hospital are reported through a regional office, including annual follow-up letters and/or calls to all patients in the hospital’s cancer database. A certified tumor registrar maintains cancer data in accordance with California state law.

The Simi Valley Hospital oncology records coordinator works under the direction of the hospital’s Cancer Committee. Cancer conferences and clinical education are available to all local medical staff and allied health professionals.

Patient Care

Patient care is provided for both inpatients and outpatients in the main hospital building and in the Aspen Outpatient Center. Services include:

  • Surgery (inpatient and outpatient).
