Physical Therapy
Physical therapy often involves treating children with muscle and bone disorders or limitations that compromise movement. Our staff has advanced knowledge in pediatric orthopedic care and therapy techniques. Enhanced motor coordination and improved functional balance are frequent outcomes of therapy. Common conditions requiring physical therapy involve problems or delays with gait, muscle tone and mobility. Training with crutches, braces or a wheelchair may be indicated. Staff is qualified to determine the need for and fabricate orthotics. Balance or coordination difficulties may also be addressed.
Occupational Therapy
Occupational therapy often is geared to address fine motor coordination,
visual-motor shills and self-help skills. In addition, occupational
therapy addresses sensory integrative functioning. This refers to
the child's ability to perceive and organize sensory information like
movement, hearing and touch. Children with sensory integrative deficits
may display difficulties — including problems with attention,
motor coordination, activity level, language development, behavior
and learning. Our staff has advanced knowledge and training in providing
intervention for these challenges. Staff is qualified to determine
the need for and fabrication of splints for improved upper extremity
function.
Common conditions requiring occupational therapy involve difficulties accomplishing activities of daily living such as playing, eating, dressing or grooming. Other difficulties may include writing, processing sensory information, and/or functioning in a structured environment, such as a school setting.
Speech and Language Therapy
Speech and language therapy develops communication skills for children who demonstrate difficulty in communicating. Often ideas and words exist only in the child's mind, as they are unable to share them articulately with others. Speech and language therapy allows for improved communication skills at home, at school and at play. Our experienced staff has extensive skills in oral motor control, dysphasia, language expression, pragmatics, assistive technology, and cognition.
Common conditions requiring speech and language therapy involve problems or delays in understanding and expressing language. Children who are non-verbal, have difficulty following instructions, or expressing needs in words may benefit from this intervention. Training in sign language or other forms of augmentative communication may be indicated.
